The Chamberlain Network Condemns U.S. Strikes on Iran and Calls for Constitutional Oversight

Atlanta, GA - The Chamberlain Network condemns the U.S. and allied military strikes on Iran absent Congressional authorization.

As veterans, we know firsthand what it means when military force is used without clear legal authority, defined objectives, or a realistic plan for what comes next. Launching strikes against another nation without express congressional authorization violates the Constitution and risks repeating the very mistakes that have cost so many lives over the past two decades.

Those of us who served in the wars after 9/11 have lived the consequences of decisions made quickly and escalated without restraint. It is Congress’ responsibility to debate and approve any military action to ensure broad support for U.S. conflicts and to prevent a Chief Executive misusing our armed forces.

Only Congress has authority to declare war or approve an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF). Congress has not exercised its constitutional power to declare war since 1941 but has given Presidents authority for military operations by passing AUMFs. Notably the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026, signed into law by President Trump in December 2025, formally repealed the 1991 and 2002 AUMF against Iraq.

“Veterans carry a unique responsibility to speak plainly about the costs of war. We know that military force is the tool of last resort, after diplomacy has failed, and should only be used after a rigorous public debate ,” said Chris Purdy, CEO and founder of the Chamberlain Network. “Congress must immediately assert its constitutional role by debating an authorization for use of military force and exercising rigorous oversight of any military action involving Iran.”

The decision to send American troops into combat belongs to the American people through their elected representatives, not to any single individual. The Chamberlain Network calls on Congress to immediately take up measures to restrain this unnecessary use of military force by the President.
