The Chamberlain Network Condemns the President’s Violent Rhetoric Targeting Members of Congress
Atlanta, GA — Today, the President of the United States accused six Members of Congress, all veterans or former national security professionals, of “seditious behavior” and suggested that they could face the death penalty. Their stated offense was reminding service members of a basic legal principle: that troops must follow lawful orders and refuse unlawful ones.
These lawmakers released a short message grounded in the values every service member learns: duty, honor, and loyalty to the Constitution. The President’s response, by contrast, threatened retribution against elected officials and used language no democratic leader should direct at them.
“While the president has a right to take issue with messaging from members of Congress,” said Chris Purdy, CEO and Founder of The Chamberlain Network, “he must not use his position of authority to promote political violence against those who disagree with him.”
The Chamberlain Network urges leaders to reaffirm the principles that keep our Republic strong: an apolitical military must serve the Constitution first, elected officials must be able to do their jobs without fear of retaliation, and political disagreements must never be escalated to violence.
